The 831 Experience
The 831 Experience is a two-day journey designed to wrap 75 of our unsheltered neighbors from the Phoenix area in profound dignity by transforming the UCC campus into a welcoming sanctuary offering 8 Touchpoints of Care, including mental health services, clinical support, legal aid, hot showers, housing resources, and more, for those in need.
More than just providing services, we are building a deep community by pairing every guest one-on-one with a volunteer friend to walk alongside them for the weekend. From professional frontline care to a celebratory, family-style sit-down dinner, everything we do is driven by a single mission: to remind our neighbors that they are never forgotten, deeply valued, and unconditionally loved.
We are thrilled to welcome Charity Lockhart for a “One Night Only” concert event in support of the 831 Experience. Through her own initiative, The House of Charity, Charity has dedicated her heart to uplifting unhoused individuals in Ohio, and she is now bringing that same passion to our stage in Phoenix. Behind our 831 Methodology is a core set of values that guides every interaction on the ground. We don’t just provide services; we intentionally design spaces where our neighbors can step out of survival mode and reclaim their future through these four non-negotiable pillars:
The 831 Experience is designed with our unhoused guests in mind. We are creating a full-scale, 8 Touchpoints-of-Care restorative experience. By bringing these 8 vital touchpoints together under one roof, we provide our guests with immediate, life-changing restoration.
Hygiene & Grooming
Guests receive access to private hot showers, mobile commercial laundry services, and professional haircuts in our grooming pavilion. Providing these necessities delivers an immediate psychological reset, boosting self-worth and relieving the daily stress of survival on the streets.
Medical Triage & Screening
Street medicine clinicians conduct private wellness exams, track vitals, and treat active wounds in a safe environment. This critical on-site care ensures our guests receive immediate attention for long-standing issues while reducing reliance on emergency rooms.
Nourishment & Dietary Care
Guests sit down one-on-one for a personalized nutritional screening and consultation on managing chronic conditions while unsheltered. Following the evaluation, they receive customized food packs tailored specifically to their health and physical needs.
Specialized Clinical Resources
We provide targeted specialist care including podiatry for chronic street injuries, alongside essential vision and hearing screenings. Restoring a neighbor’s ability to see and hear clearly is a vital step that enables them to read documents, apply for housing, and access technology.
Mental Health & Restorative Respite
Trauma-informed counselors provide gentle, on-site emotional support and de-escalation care. Guests can participate in healing circles and calming exercises designed to soothe hypervigilance and restore an internal sense of safety.
Legal Aid Support
Pro-bono attorneys meet one-on-one with guests to check outstanding warrants, resolve minor non-violent misdemeanors, and navigate tenant disputes. This critical step removes the primary legal barriers that often block access to permanent housing and federal benefits.
Employment & Veteran Benefits
Dedicated advocates help guests navigate state benefits, look up active military service records, and access veteran-specific housing resources. We meet our neighbors where they are to jumpstart their connection to long-term financial stability and support systems.
Housing Navigation & Placement
Housing professionals work directly with guests to complete vulnerability indexes, build official profiles, and match them with open shelter beds or rapid rehousing pipelines. Our goal is to ensure every guest walks away with a clear, actionable roadmap toward a permanent place to call home if that is something they would like.
