Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to use the pantry?
Our pantry is open to anyone in the community currently experiencing homelessness or housing instability. We welcome all neighbors with compassion and do not require any formal referral or background check to receive assistance.
What are the pantry's hours and location?
We are located at 1407 N 2nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85004, on the west side of UCC – First Church. We are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. To ensure privacy and safety, we operate a walk-up window service where you can request the items you need directly from our staff. Due to the high demand and requests, we may not always have everything in stock.
Do I need to bring an ID or other documentation?
No, we prioritize low barriers to access and do not require photo identification or proof of address to receive food or essentials. We simply ask for your name or a unique identifier to help us manage our inventory and ensure everyone in the community gets a fair share of supplies.
Will food be provided and is it free?
We provide nutritious, ready-to-eat bagged lunches designed for individuals who may not have access to a kitchen or refrigeration. Each meal is prepared with care to provide the energy and nutrition needed to help you through your day. We make every effort to provide 1 sandwich (generally peanut butter), 1 fruit, 1 granola bar or bag of chips, and a water in every bagged lunch. To ensure everyone in the community receives an equal share, we cannot double up on any items.
Is Powered By Love a religious organization?
No, we are a secular, non-religious 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. 🌍 While we are incredibly grateful to rent space from the UCC First Church, our operations, mission, and leadership are independent of any religious denomination.
Do I need to be a member of the church or share a specific faith to receive help?
Not at all. We warmly welcome and serve all neighbors regardless of their religious beliefs, spiritual practices, or lack thereof. Our goal is to provide essential support to every individual in need, creating an environment where everyone feels safe and respected for who they are.
How often can I receive socks and underwear?
To ensure we have enough for everyone, brand-new socks and underwear are distributed on specific “Dignity Days”. Please check with the staff to see what days we distribute socks/underwear. We ask that folks limit these requests to once per week so that our shelves remain stocked for all who need them.
Are hygiene and toiletry items available?
Yes, we offer over 15 different personal care items, including soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, and feminine hygiene products. These are provided to help you maintain your health and self-worth while living on the streets.
How can I donate items to the pantry?
The best way to help is by donating high-demand items like new socks, underwear, and toiletries through our Amazon Wishlist or by dropping them off during business hours. We specifically request new, unopened clothing and grooming products to ensure the health and dignity of our guests. If you have a large donation, please contact us at donations@poweredbylove.org
Why does the pantry use a "walk-up" window model?
The walk-up model allows us to serve our neighbors quickly while respecting their privacy and personal space. It creates a safe, low-stress environment where you can get what you need without the anxiety of navigating a crowded indoor facility.
